Kee Sam, a 24-year-old Black transgender woman, was tragically shot at a hotel in Lafayette, Louisiana, on August 12, 2020. She succumbed to her injuries the following day. Kee Sam's death is a stark reminder of the violence faced by Black transgender women in the United States. Her passing marked at least the 27th violent death of a transgender or gender non-conforming person in the U.S. in 2020.
