In the early morning hours of December 21, 2022, just four days before Christmas, the life of 21-year-old Tyren Henderson was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting. The incident occurred at the Lark Baton Rouge Apartments on Burbank Drive, an off-campus apartment complex near Louisiana State University. When Baton Rouge Police officers arrived at the scene around 7:45 a.m., they discovered Henderson had been shot and died from his injuries.
For months, the case remained without significant updates, leaving a void in the search for answers.
The investigation into the death of the young man, who was a scaffold builder and carpenter, continued quietly but diligently. Then, four months after the shooting, a breakthrough was announced. On April 21, 2023, Baton Rouge Police, in a joint effort with the U.S. Marshal's Task Force, arrested 21-year-old Darrius Janatsch in connection with Henderson's death.
Janatsch was taken into custody and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He was charged with second-degree murder for his alleged role in the shooting death of Tyren Henderson. In addition to the murder charge, authorities stated that Janatsch would also face other charges from both the LSU Police Department and the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for unrelated incidents.
