Death by Force

On April 23, 2005, Robert "Steve" McFadin, a male pre-trial detainee at the Spring Valley Police Department in Illinois, died by suicide. He was placed in a holding cell after being charged with violating an order of protection against his estranged wife. While in custody, McFadin managed to wrestle away the firearm of Officer Thomas Quartucci during a struggle. After Quartucci fled the cell, McFadin used the officer's gun to shoot himself.
