On March 16, 2014, 25-year-old Demaree D. Tetter, a Black male from Danville, Illinois, was fatally shot outside Club Deuce, located at 623 N. Vermilion St. He was pronounced dead at 2:06 a.m. at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center's emergency room. Born on July 1, 1988, in Danville to James E. Coleman and Donnetta L. Tetter, Demaree had been a local resident throughout his life.
Following the incident, authorities arrested an individual named Alexander in Indianapolis on a murder warrant two days after the shooting. Alexander faced two counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery with discharge of a firearm in connection with the death of Demaree D. Tetter. The legal proceedings encountered delays due to a conflict of interest involving Alexander's attorney, Baku Patel, who also represented a key witness in the case. This conflict led to the attorney's disqualification and further postponed the trial.
In February 2018, jury selection commenced for Alexander's trial, with Assistant Attorneys General from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office leading the prosecution. Despite the efforts to bring justice, the trial concluded with not guilty verdicts, and Alexander was acquitted of all charges related to the shooting death of 25-year-old Demaree D. Tetter.
Demaree's untimely death was a significant loss to the Danville community. He was remembered by family and friends, and his passing was noted in local obituaries.
