Gerald Kates, a 21-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on January 7, 2021, in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side of Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred around 2:35 p.m. in front of a home located in the 6300 block of South Artesian Avenue. According to the Chicago police, Gerald Kates suffered gunshot wounds to both legs and the abdomen. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
