Black/African American male, age 5, Demeir A. Douglas died on Sunday, August 24, 2025, in Chicago's Kenwood neighborhood after getting hold of a handgun inside a family apartment on the 4400 block of South Greenwood Avenue. Around 1:15–1:17 p.m., the child was in a bedroom when the shot was fired; he was rushed to Comer Children's Hospital and later pronounced dead.
