Ricky Duke Shipman, a 35-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on April 5, 2021, in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. Shipman and a 38-year-old man were sitting in a parked vehicle around 10:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of West Garfield Boulevard when they were ambushed by gunfire. Shipman was struck in the chest and was immediately transported to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
