Candido Salinas, a 28-year-old man, was fatally shot in a drive-by incident on January 13, 2024, in Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. when Salinas was standing on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of West 33rd Street. A vehicle pulled up, and an offender inside the vehicle produced a firearm and fired shots, striking Salinas in the chest and head.
Salinas was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
This incident marked the first homicide in McKinley Park for the year 2024, following a year in 2023 with no recorded homicides in the neighborhood.
As of the latest reports, no one is in custody for Salinas's murder, and no motive has been identified. The Chicago Police Department continues to investigate the case, but so far, there have been no arrests or suspects named in connection with the shooting.
