On June 13, 2011, 15-year-old Hispanic male Jovany Diaz was fatally shot while celebrating his birthday in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. in the 4300 block of West Hirsch Street, where Jovany was standing outside with his cousin, 19-year-old Robert Diaz. A gunman approached from across the street and opened fire, striking Jovany in the chest and his cousin in the hand.
