In the evening hours of November 1, 2021, the life of 23-year-old Qwanterio Rice was tragically cut short in a southwest Atlanta apartment building. Atlanta police officers responded to a 'person shot' call at approximately 8:20 p.m. at 520 Fulton Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered Rice in a stairwell, having sustained what appeared to be fatal gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the death of the young man progressed swiftly.
Two days later, on November 3, 2021, authorities identified 26-year-old Diante Barnhill as a suspect in the shooting. Warrants were issued for his arrest on charges of murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Later that month, on November 26, 2021, Diante Barnhill was located in Lilburn, a city in Gwinnett County, and taken into custody by law enforcement. His arrest brought a significant development in the case, which was one of 158 homicides investigated by the Atlanta Police Department in 2021.
