In the spring of 2021, a burst of violence in a northwest Atlanta neighborhood claimed the life of 41-year-old Jocobe Gilbert. On the afternoon of Friday, April 23rd, police responded to a call at the intersection of North and Ruth streets. There, they discovered Gilbert lying in the road, having been shot multiple times.
Emergency services transported him to Grady Memorial Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office later officially identified Gilbert as the victim. The incident was the 40th homicide investigated by Atlanta police that year, a significant increase from the previous year.
The circumstances that led to the fatal shooting remain unclear. At the time of the initial reports, authorities had not made any arrests in connection with the case and had not publicly identified any suspects. The investigation into the shooting was ongoing, and police appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a break in the case. An obituary confirmed his passing on April 23, 2021, with funeral services held in early May of that year.
