In the early hours of May 4, 2021, the life of Sophie Arrieta Vasquez, a 36-year-old Latina transgender woman from Costa Rica, was tragically cut short in her own apartment in Brookhaven, Georgia. Responding to a report of a person shot at the Atlantic Brookhaven Apartments just after 8 a.m., police discovered Vasquez deceased in the doorway of her home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
