In the late hours of a September evening in Clayton County, Georgia, a young man's life was cut short in a hail of gunfire. Malik Ramee, a 23-year-old male, was found unresponsive at the Brookside Apartment Homes on Riverdale Road, having been shot multiple times. The tragic events unfolded on September 4, 2015, stemming from what was reported as a domestic dispute over a set of car keys.
The ensuing investigation by the Clayton County Police quickly identified two suspects: Ramee's
19-year-old stepson, John Barnes, and his 17-year-old friend, Elijay Young-Williams. According to police statements, Barnes's mother had asked him to retrieve her car keys from Ramee. Barnes and Young-Williams then went to the apartment complex to meet with him.
What began as a seemingly simple errand escalated into a fatal altercation. An argument broke out between the three, and during the course of the dispute, both Barnes and Young-Williams allegedly produced handguns and opened fire on Ramee. He was struck by several bullets, and the wounds proved to be fatal.
Following the shooting, both John Barnes and Elijay Young-Williams were promptly arrested by law enforcement. They were subsequently charged with the murder of Malik Ramee.
