LaDarrius Marquise Cowart, an 18-year-old African American male from Waukegan, IL, tragically lost his life on June 6, 2021. LaDarrius was born on August 11, 2002, and was known for his vibrant personality and love for football, music, and fashion. He graduated from Warren Township High School in 2020 and worked at Chicago O'Hare Airport. On the night of his death, LaDarrius was at Bowen Park in Waukegan, where he was shot in the head. The Waukegan Police Department and Fire Department responded to the scene around 2:20 a.m., but unfortunately, LaDarrius was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into LaDarrius's death revealed that he was shot in the head during a gathering at Bowen Park, which had between 50-70 people present. Despite the large number of potential witnesses, none have come forward with information. The Waukegan Police Criminal Investigations Division and the Lake County Coroner's Office are handling the investigation. Numerous shell casings were found at the scene, but the police have not disclosed the number or calibers of the casings. The authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the Waukegan Police Department.
As of now, there have been no arrests or identified suspects in connection with LaDarrius's murder. The case remains open, and the police continue to seek leads and witnesses to help solve the crime. The community and LaDarrius's family are still waiting for justice and closure.
