N. G. 'Doc' Osborn, a 41-year-old white male police officer from Columbus, Georgia, tragically lost his life on January 31, 1901. Officer Osborn was responding to a complaint about a man causing a disturbance at a prostitution house on 8th Street. Upon arrival, he found the suspect, who was intoxicated, sleeping in an upstairs bedroom. As Officer Osborn attempted to arrest the man for drunk and disorderly conduct, the suspect resisted and shot him, resulting in his death.
