Charles Edward Crabtree, a police officer with the Atlanta Police Department, died on May 17, 1902, in Atlanta, Georgia. Officer Crabtree, along with fellow officers, was attempting to arrest a gang of criminals who were wanted for beating a former police officer. The gang had barricaded themselves in a house and opened fire on the officers from concealed positions inside the home.
