The events of that day unfolded when four men, three of whom were recent prison escapees from Maryland, happened upon the Alday family property.
The perpetrators, identified as brothers Carl and William 'Billy' Isaacs, Wayne Carl Coleman, and George Elder Dungee, had been on a crime spree after breaking out of prison. Their path of violence led them to the Alday's mobile home, initially with the intent to burglarize it for gasoline and valuables.
