Milwood L. Stokes, a 50-year-old white male, served as the Chief of Police in Whigham, Georgia. On April 6, 1980, he tragically lost his life in the line of duty. The incident began when Chief Stokes and a city councilman observed a truck speeding through town. They attempted to stop the vehicle, leading to a high-speed chase that ended at a residence.
