In the early evening of May 21, 2025, a sense of unease settled over the 2500 block of Lumpkin Road in Augusta, Georgia. Responding to a call, deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office discovered a scene that would soon escalate to a homicide investigation. On the ground before them lay Jaquavious Watkins, a 26-year-old Black/African American male, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
He was rushed to Wellstar MCG Health, but his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead later that evening.
The investigation into the shooting death of Jaquavious Watkins quickly focused on a single suspect: 18-year-old Tayshuan Antonio Goodwin. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office issued warrants for Goodwin's arrest, charging him with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. A physical description of Goodwin was released to the public, and he was considered to be armed and dangerous. For a period, his whereabouts remained unknown, and law enforcement sought the public's assistance in locating him.
The search for Tayshuan Goodwin came to a close on June 18, 2025. On that day, he was booked into the Richmond County Jail, facing the serious charges that had been brought against him in connection with the death of Jaquavious Watkins.
