In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Augusta, Georgia, a tragic event unfolded that would cut short the life of Shawn Elbert Couch. On September 26, 2021, the 38-year-old male was at a residence on Ashley Drive when he was shot in the chest with a. 45-caliber handgun just after midnight. Responding officers discovered him in the backyard of the property. Despite being rushed to Augusta University Medical Center, the wounds proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at 1:02 a.m.
