In the early morning hours of November 21, 2024, tragedy struck in Augusta, Georgia, when 50-year-old Chavious Kimmerlin was found shot to death inside his own home on Highland Avenue. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of shots fired around 7:15 a.m. and discovered Kimmerlin unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
The investigation into the death of the beloved community member led authorities to two suspects.
In January 2025, investigators arrested 25-year-old De'Narian Cobb in connection with the homicide. Cobb, a resident of nearby Waynesboro, was a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history, including pending charges for previous violent crimes in Richmond County for which he was out on parole.
The second suspect, Cedric Alandus Peters, fled the state following the shooting, prompting a widespread manhunt. The search for Peters crossed international borders, and in February 2026, he was captured by U.S. Marshals in Thailand, over 9,000 miles away from the scene of the crime. Peters was found in a condominium and is awaiting extradition back to the United States to face charges for his alleged involvement in Kimmerlin's death.
