Private Michael Donell Stephenson, a 29-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on July 16, 1997, in Augusta, Georgia. He was serving as a law enforcement officer with the Richmond County Board of Education Public Safety at the time of his death. Private Stephenson was responding to a burglary alarm at Jamestown Elementary School in Hephzibah, Georgia, around 4:30 a.m. when the incident occurred.
