In the pre-dawn hours of July 16, 1997, a dedicated public safety officer's life was tragically cut short in Augusta, Georgia. Private Michael Donell Stephenson, a 29-year-old African American male, was responding to a burglary alarm at Jamestown Elementary School in Hephzibah. It was a call that seemed routine, but would ultimately prove fatal.
