Derrick Lee Merritt Jr., a 22-year-old African American male from Athens, GA, tragically lost his life on May 10, 2014. The incident occurred outside Bootleggers nightclub on Commerce Road in Athens. Merritt, along with another 22-year-old male, Jamaris Antrellis Walter, was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a shooting that erupted in the nightclub's parking lot.
