In the early evening of June 17, 2014, a violent encounter in the parking lot of a CVS in northwest Atlanta claimed the life of 28-year-old Michael Holmes, an African American male. The incident, which unfolded at the pharmacy situated at the intersection of Marietta Boulevard and Bolton Road, escalated from a verbal dispute into a shootout.
According to initial police reports, Holmes and at least one other individual were involved in the exchange of gunfire.
It is believed that the men were acquainted with one another and may have been specifically targeting each other. After being shot, Holmes collapsed inside the CVS store. A second man sustained gunshot wounds to his lower extremities and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
Investigators at the time suggested that the shooting may have been drug-related. Despite the initial belief that the parties involved knew each other, public records do not indicate that any arrests have been made in the years following the incident. Information regarding the identification of any suspects has not been released. The case surrounding the death of Michael Holmes remains without a publicly announced resolution.
