In the fall of 2020, a young man's life was cut short in Atlanta, Georgia. Javeon Bino Billings, a 21-year-old male, was fatally shot on October 2nd in the 3600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Following the shooting, he was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head two days later on October 4, 2020. The incident prompted an investigation by the Atlanta Police Department as they began the search for those responsible for the violent act that ended Billings' life.
Nearly two weeks after the shooting, two teenage suspects turned themselves in to the authorities. Joshua Witherspoon, who was 19 at the time, and a 16-year-old whose name was not released due to his age, surrendered to police. Investigators had secured arrest warrants for the pair, and they were subsequently charged with felony murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. Witherspoon was booked into the Fulton County jail, while the younger teen was taken to a youth detention center.
In a later development, another individual was connected to the death of Javeon Billings. Court records revealed that Jeremiah Andrew Johnson, 19, had also been charged in the 2020 murder. According to police, the shooting occurred when the two had arranged to meet for a gun exchange. Johnson was granted a bond for the murder charge. However, his time out of custody was short-lived. In December 2023, he was arrested again following a traffic stop near the Georgia State Capitol. After attempting to flee from troopers, he was apprehended and faced new charges, including fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. A search of his vehicle at the time of this second arrest uncovered marijuana and a stolen handgun.
