In the late summer of 2014, a whirlwind romance in Augusta, Georgia, came to a tragic and violent end, leaving a community in shock and a family to grapple with an unthinkable loss. On September 9, 2014, Treasey L. Wingo, a 47-year-old Black female, was found deceased in her home at the Estates at Perimeter apartment complex. She had been married to her husband, 46-year-old Andre Wingo, for approximately two weeks.
Authorities from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office were called to the
residence on St. Andrews Drive for a suspicious situation. Inside the master bedroom's bathroom, they discovered the bodies of the recently married couple. The investigation that followed painted a grim picture of the final moments of their short-lived union. It was determined that Treasey Wingo had suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to her head and body. Andre Wingo was found with what investigators identified as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The ensuing investigation by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office concluded that Andre Wingo was the perpetrator in a murder-suicide. After shooting his wife, he turned the gun on himself. With the identification of the shooter and the circumstances of the deaths, the case was closed. There were no other suspects, and no further arrests were made in connection with the incident. The tragic event left the community to mourn the loss of Treasey Wingo, who was remembered as a beloved mother to her three children.
