Emergency services were first dispatched to the residence after receiving a 911 call from a woman who reported she was having difficulty breathing. That woman was Sonia Burke, Jimmie's 58-year-old wife. However, police would later reveal it was Jimmie Burke himself who made that initial call for help. When firefighters and EMS arrived, Sonia directed them to a locked room inside the house.
Forced to make their way inside, the rescue crews discovered the body of Jimmie Burke. The scene pointed to a domestic dispute that had escalated to a fatal conclusion. As a result, Sonia Burke was taken into custody as the primary suspect in her husband's murder. She was subsequently charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and aggravated assault.
