In the late summer of 2011, the life of 19-year-old Kameron Collier was tragically cut short in Norfolk, Virginia. On August 25, an argument escalated to violence in the 1500 block of Aspin Street, resulting in Collier being shot. He succumbed to his injuries six days later, leaving a community in mourning and a perpetrator at large. The young male's death prompted a lengthy investigation as Norfolk police began the search for the individual responsible for the fatal shooting.
Authorities identified Montrell D'Angelo Davis as the primary suspect in Kameron Collier's death. For years, Davis managed to evade capture, his whereabouts unknown. The case remained a priority for law enforcement, and their persistence eventually paid off. In October 2015, four years after the shooting, members of a fugitive squad, in collaboration with Norfolk police, located and arrested Davis in the city where the crime was committed.
With the suspect in custody, the legal process could finally begin. Montrell D'Angelo Davis was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. In March of 2016, he appeared in Norfolk Circuit Court and pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. This plea marked a significant step towards closure for Collier's family and the community. In June 2016, Davis, who was 26 years old at the time of his sentencing, was ordered to serve 17 years and four months in prison for his role in the death of Kameron Collier.
