A gathering of friends in Kennesaw, Georgia, took a tragic turn on April 1, 2017, ending in the death of 23-year-old Justin C. Dallas. Dallas was found with a fatal gunshot wound on West Station Drive after what was initially reported as a party that had erupted into gunfire. Despite attempts by his friends to revive him, Dallas succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The young man was a father to two children, including an infant son.
The ensuing investigation by the Cobb County Police Department swiftly identified a suspect, and 19-year-old Naeem Jakwan Edwards of Acworth was arrested in connection with the shooting. Edwards was subsequently charged with felony murder and aggravated assault with intent to murder and was held in the Cobb County Jail without bond. While early reports suggested a party gone wrong, later information would reveal a more complex and organized background to the fatal encounter.
As the case progressed, it became clear that the incident was not a random act of violence at a social gathering but was instead rooted in a gang-related dispute. Both Justin Dallas and Naeem Edwards were members of the 'Rollin 20s' set of the Bloods street gang. Dallas held a leadership position within the group, with Edwards serving as his second-in-command. The fatal shooting was the result of an internal power struggle, with prosecutors stating that Edwards killed Dallas to increase his own status within the gang. In August 2018, Naeem Jakwan Edwards pleaded guilty to charges that included malice murder and violating the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison, to be followed by an additional 15 years of supervised release.
