On a summer day in Kennesaw, Georgia, a grim discovery was made at the Pinetree Country Club. Henry Valdez, a 46-year-old Hispanic male from California, was found dead on July 3, 2021. His body, along with that of 76-year-old Paul Pierson of Kansas, was discovered in the bed of a white pickup truck. Both men had been bound, gagged with tape, and fatally shot. The truck they were in was left precariously on the edge of a sand trap on the 10th hole of the golf course.
A third man, 46-year-old golf pro Eugene Siller, was also found dead at the scene with a gunshot wound to his head. Investigators believe that Siller was not an initial target but was tragically killed because he happened upon the crime in progress after going to investigate why the truck was on the course. Neither Valdez nor Pierson had any known connection to the country club itself.
The investigation into the triple homicide led authorities to Bryan Anthony Rhoden. Evidence suggested a prior association between Rhoden, Valdez, and Pierson, with a friend of Valdez indicating their relationship revolved around the cannabis trade. Rhoden was subsequently arrested and faced a 15-count indictment that included charges of malice murder, felony murder, kidnapping with bodily injury, and aggravated assault.
Ultimately, to avoid the possibility of the death penalty, Bryan Rhoden accepted a plea deal. He was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, in addition to two more life sentences and an extra five years. The resolution of the case brought a measure of justice to the families of Henry Valdez, Paul Pierson, and Eugene Siller, who were all victims of a senseless act of violence that unfolded on that quiet golf course.
