Russell Robert Wuertz, a 71-year-old man from Fort McCoy, Florida, was last in contact on October 15, 2023. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a white male, standing between 5'7" and 5'11" tall, and weighing between 180 and 220 pounds. He has gray or partially gray hair and blue eyes. His case is being managed by the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

A significant development in the case is the discovery of a deceased individual inside Wuertz's residence. Authorities believe the remains are those of Russell Wuertz, but scientific confirmation of the decedent's identity is still pending. This finding has added a layer of complexity to the investigation, which was officially reported to the Marion County Sheriff's Office on March 30, 2026.

The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are further complicated by the fact that Wuertz had been estranged from his only living family member for a period of 15 to 20 years. This lack of recent contact with family has made gathering information about his activities and state of mind leading up to his disappearance more challenging for investigators. The official NamUs case for his disappearance was created on April 21, 2026.
