In the late afternoon of August 3, 2017, a confrontation on the 1000 block of West 35th Street in Savannah, Georgia, tragically cut short the life of 21-year-old Dontray JaRon Hart. The young man, a resident of Georgia, was found by responding Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police officers around 4:30 p.m. suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Another man, 23-year-old Theron Early, was also discovered at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries. Both men were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but Hart ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators quickly determined that the shooting stemmed from an altercation between Hart and 23-year-old Dominique Jackson. During the dispute, gunfire was exchanged, and Jackson also sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Despite his own wounds, Jackson fled the scene. However, his freedom was short-lived as officers swiftly located and apprehended him a few streets away from the incident.
Following his capture, Dominique Jackson was arrested and subsequently charged with one count of murder for the death of Dontray Hart and one count of aggravated assault in connection with the injuries sustained by Theron Early. The swift arrest brought a suspect into custody, marking the beginning of the legal proceedings in a case that had suddenly and violently ended a young man's life.
