On April 24, 2016, 35-year-old Tarik Bentley was found dead from a gunshot wound inside a residence on East DeRenne Avenue in Savannah, Georgia. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene early that morning, initiating an investigation into his homicide. Following the incident, an arrest was made on May 19, 2016, when authorities apprehended Kiwani Khalif Patterson, who was charged with Bentley's murder.
