In a tragic turn of events that unfolded on a late Saturday night in Macon, Georgia, 24-year-old Emmanuel Stroud Jr. lost his life. On September 16, 2017, just before midnight, Bibb County deputies were called to the 2800 block of Walmar Drive where they discovered two men had been shot. Stroud had sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen and the left side of his head. He was rushed to Navicent Health medical center where he was listed in critical condition, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The second man, 36-year-old Tecovelin R. Starling, was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound to his left leg.
The subsequent investigation by the Bibb County Sheriff's Office revealed a narrative of self-defense. Evidence indicated that Stroud had first shot Starling, who then returned fire, fatally wounding Stroud. Following a review of the investigation, the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office determined that Starling's actions were justified. As a result, no criminal charges were filed in connection with the death of Emmanuel Stroud Jr.
This incident was part of a devastating year for the Stroud family. Just three months prior, on June 18, 2017, Emmanuel Stroud Jr.'s father, 57-year-old Emmanuel Stroud Sr., was also shot and killed. His death was one of several unsolved homicides in Bibb County that year.
