On the night of July 18, 2023, Donchevelle Gerald Boddie, a 25-year-old Black male from Macon, Georgia, was caught in a burst of violence outside the Baymont Inn & Suites at 3680 Riverside Drive. According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent to the hotel at about 9:33 p.m. after reports of shots fired and found Boddie unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was taken by ambulance to Atrium Health Navicent, where Deputy Coroner Richard Robinson said he was pronounced dead at 10:12 p.m. Early reports described the investigation as active and said authorities were trying to determine who was responsible for the shooting.
In the first days after the killing, the case seemed to sit in that painful space between shock and answers. Local reporting noted that no one else was hurt, and investigators publicly asked for help identifying the suspect. The scene was especially unsettling because news outlets pointed out that Boddie was the third shooting victim connected to that motel area within a short stretch of time, giving his death an added sense of dread in the community. For months, the public record in news reports was mostly the same grim outline: a man found shot in a hotel parking lot, a family notified, and detectives still working to piece together what had happened.
A break came on October 4, 2023, when authorities announced an arrest. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said 20-year-old Ronquez Deshon Wynn of Macon was booked into the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center just after 4:00 p.m. that day and was wanted for murder in connection with Boddie’s death. Multiple local reports said Wynn was transported from the DeKalb County Jail back to Bibb County, and at the time of those reports he was facing a murder charge. In the online sources reviewed, that arrest appears to be the last clearly documented public development tied specifically to Boddie’s case; I did not locate later verified reporting showing a trial, conviction, or additional suspects.
