On a tragic Halloween night in Macon, Georgia, 38-year-old Jackie Dewayne Rouse, an African American male, lost his life in a violent altercation. On October 31, 2017, Rouse was attending a party on Dennis Street when a dispute escalated into gunfire. During the chaos, Rouse was fatally shot, while another man, 31-year-old Quincy Bernard Emory, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. The incident was one of several violent events that occurred in Macon on that particularly deadly Halloween.
Following the shooting, law enforcement initiated an investigation that led to the identification and arrest of two suspects: Trayvion Lamonte Burney and Anterrio Tremaine Stinson. Both men were charged with multiple felonies, including Murder, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony. The investigation revealed that both Burney and Stinson had prior criminal records; Burney had a previous conviction, and Stinson was on probation as a first offender.
In February 2022, Burney and Stinson faced a jury in Bibb County Superior Court. After the trial, presided over by Chief Judge Howard Z. Simms, the jury found both men guilty on all charges related to the murder of Jackie Dewayne Rouse. The convictions brought a measure of justice to Rouse's family, who remembered him as a loving husband, father, son, and brother. His death served as a stark reminder of the impact of gun violence on the Macon community.
