In the summer of 2018, the life of 24-year-old David Cooper was cut short in Athens, Georgia. On the night of Tuesday, July 17th, police responded to reports of gunfire at a local convenience store. Arriving at Perry's Convenience Store on Cedar Shoals Drive, they discovered Cooper with multiple gunshot wounds. He was a male. Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a
suspect. In the early morning hours of the following day, police arrested 26-year-old Randy Levrette at the Parkview Homes Apartments. The investigation suggested that an argument had preceded the deadly shooting. According to police reports, Levrette was sitting in a car when he was approached by Cooper and another individual. An altercation ensued, during which Levrette allegedly fired multiple shots, striking Cooper. Following the incident, Levrette fled the scene but was apprehended by law enforcement just hours later.
Randy Levrette was subsequently charged with malice murder in connection with David Cooper's death. The case, however, was not without controversy. Cooper's family later expressed their profound dissatisfaction with the handling of the case by the District Attorney's office. They voiced frustration, stating that they felt their concerns were not being adequately addressed and that they were met with excuses rather than a vigorous pursuit of justice for their loved one.
