In the early morning hours of November 12, 2018, the life of 40-year-old Stephen Jerome Styles Jr. was tragically cut short in Valdosta, Georgia. Responding to a call about a shooting at the Blanton Commons apartment complex on Lankford Drive, law enforcement officers discovered Styles unresponsive in the parking lot. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The investigation into the death of Stephen Styles, a man described by his family as charismatic, loving, and full of life, quickly turned into a homicide case. Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department and crime-scene technicians from the Valdosta/Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The news of his violent death sent ripples of shock and grief through his community and left his loved ones searching for answers.

Less than a month after the shooting, a significant development in the case brought a glimmer of hope for justice. In late November, the Valdosta Police Department issued an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Ian Rashad Henry, charging him with felony murder in connection with Styles' death. The search for Henry extended beyond state lines, and on December 1, 2018, he was apprehended in Melbourne, Florida, by the local police department. Following his arrest, Henry was held in Florida, awaiting extradition to Lowndes County to face the charges against him.
