In a tragic turn of events stemming from a planned robbery, 23-year-old Andrew Barkley of the Atlanta, GA area, lost his life on March 14, 2019. What began as a scheme to steal drugs, allegedly orchestrated by Barkley and his acquaintance, Angelo Lenon, spiraled into a fatal shootout that left three men dead, including Barkley himself.
The incident unfolded at the Vineyard Walk Apartments near Flat Shoals Road and Interstate 20.
Barkley and Lenon had reportedly been drawn to the location after seeing a social media post displaying drugs. The two men, armed with a pistol and a shotgun, entered the apartment with the intent to rob 23-year-old Daishone Flagg and 26-year-old Jeremie Tyson.
Inside the apartment, the situation escalated quickly. Flagg was shot in the forehead, and Tyson was shot in the back with a shotgun. As Barkley attempted to retrieve a gun from Tyson, believing he was deceased, Tyson managed to return fire, striking Barkley. In the ensuing chaos, Barkley and Lenon fled the apartment. Barkley, however, collapsed in the main road of the apartment complex and was later found unresponsive. He, along with Flagg and Tyson, were all transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
In the aftermath, Angelo Lenon contacted Barkley's girlfriend, inquiring if she had heard from him. When confronted with her knowledge of their planned robbery, Lenon admitted that the plan had 'went left' and resulted in Barkley's death. This information was relayed to Barkley's family, who then contacted the police. Four days after the deadly incident, Angelo Lenon was arrested in Newnan. A jury later found Lenon guilty on multiple counts, including two counts of malice murder and three counts of felony murder, for his role in the deaths of Flagg and Tyson. He subsequently received three life sentences.
