In the late summer of 2019, a burst of violence on a Saturday afternoon in Savannah, Georgia, claimed the life of 48-year-old Frederick Smith. The incident unfolded on August 31st, at approximately 2:35 p.m., in the 4200 block of Bull Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Smith suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
For nearly two years, the case remained a focal point for Savannah Police Violent
Crimes detectives. Their investigation eventually led them to identify a suspect. In February 2021, the case was presented to a grand jury, which resulted in a bench warrant being issued for the arrest of Anthony Green, who was 44 years old at the time.
On June 9, 2021, a breakthrough in the case occurred when the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Georgia State Patrol located and apprehended Green. He was subsequently booked into the Chatham County jail the following day. Green faced a series of serious charges, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, bringing a significant development to a case that had impacted the Savannah community.
