In the small city of Cordele, Georgia, a life was tragically cut short in the fall of 2019. A young man, 24-year-old Jacquez Alexander, was fatally wounded in an altercation that transpired on a Tuesday afternoon. The incident, which unfolded outside of Stark's Body Shop on South 7th Street, was reportedly the result of a dispute between relatives. First responders arrived at the scene and transported Alexander to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe.
He succumbed to his wounds at approximately 3:00 a.m. the following Wednesday morning.
The Cordele Police Department, with the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, promptly launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led to the identification and arrest of two suspects in connection with Alexander's death. Antonio Spears, a 32-year-old resident of Cordele, was taken into custody and faced a series of grave charges, including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. A second individual, 20-year-old Duwan Brown, also from Cordele, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. Both men were subsequently booked into the Crisp County Detention Center.
Even with the arrests of Spears and Brown, law enforcement officials indicated that the investigation into the death of Jacquez Alexander remained active. They continued to appeal to the public for any additional information that could shed further light on the circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation. The case left the community of Cordele in mourning for the loss of a young life and seeking answers and justice for a death that stemmed from familial conflict.
