In the late summer of 2017, the community of Cordele, Georgia, was shaken by an act of violence that claimed the lives of two of its own. On August 23, 2017, 35-year-old Jacarro Lamont Odom and another man, Shaquaveon M. Felder, were tragically killed in a double homicide. The incident prompted an intensive investigation led by the Cordele Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The investigation into the senseless killings quickly became a collaborative effort, with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service joining the Cordele Police and GBI. Their combined efforts led to a significant breakthrough in the case within a week. The focus of the investigation turned to a 23-year-old man named Geoffrey L. Jones, Jr.
A warrant was issued for Jones's arrest on the charge of felony murder. On August 30, 2017, members of the United States Marshal Service located and apprehended him in West Palm Beach, Florida. Following his arrest, Cordele Police Chief Rob Rodriguez described the killings as a 'terrible act of senseless violence' and emphasized the importance of the inter-agency cooperation in the swift capture of the suspect. While an arrest was made, authorities indicated that the investigation into the double homicide was still ongoing.
