In the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 8, 2018, the life of 30-year-old Kelvin James Barron of Cordele, Georgia, was tragically cut short. Known to his friends and family as 'KK,' Mr. Barron was a father of three and a 2006 graduate of Crisp County High School. The events leading to his untimely death unfolded in the area of the 600 block of West 21st Avenue in Cordele.
Cordele Police responded to calls of shots being fired in the neighborhood. During their initial investigation, officers discovered that a residence had been struck by what appeared to be bullets. As they were securing the scene, the local E911 center received a notification that an individual who had been shot had arrived at the emergency room of Crisp Regional Hospital. That individual was later identified as Kelvin James Barron, who was subsequently pronounced deceased. The suspects had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
An investigation into the homicide was launched by the Cordele Police Department with assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The investigation led to the arrests of three individuals. An 18-year-old female named Franekia West was arrested and charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault. Two men, 26-year-old Hykeem Dawson and 23-year-old Shaquille Jeffery, were also taken into custody and charged with four counts of Aggravated Assault each in connection with the shooting.
