In the late evening of Thursday, September 21, 2023, the sound of numerous gunshots shattered the peace in the 1000 block of Tulip Avenue in Cordele, Georgia. Concerned residents promptly alerted authorities, and at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers from the Cordele Police Department arrived at the scene. A group of people flagged down the responding officers, directing them to a residence where they discovered 19-year-old Rondarrius Wedges inside a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were rendered at the scene in an attempt to save the young man's life. Despite these efforts, Rondarrius Wedges, a male from Cordele, succumbed to his injuries. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was subsequently called in to assist the Cordele Police Department's Criminal Investigative Division with the homicide investigation.
Following a thorough investigation that included numerous interviews, search warrants, and neighborhood canvases, a suspect was identified. On Thursday, March 28, 2024, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested 21-year-old Lee Savage III in connection with the death of Rondarrius Wedges. Savage, who was already incarcerated at the Crisp County Jail on unrelated charges, now faces charges of Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault. The case is being prosecuted by the District Attorney of the Cordele Judicial Circuit as the investigation remains active.
