On a Wednesday morning in Savannah, Georgia, the life of 32-year-old Ashley Shamon Hunter was tragically taken. The date was October 16, 2019, when officers from the Savannah Police Department were dispatched to the Savannah Gardens apartment complex on Pennsylvania Avenue following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival at approximately 8:40 a.m., they discovered Ms. Hunter's body.
Further investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit revealed a grim sequence of events.
Authorities determined that Ashley Hunter was the victim of a murder-suicide. She had been fatally wounded by 37-year-old Deaundre Kent, who subsequently turned the weapon on himself. The investigation concluded that Kent was the sole perpetrator and that he and Hunter were acquainted with each other. As Kent was also deceased at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with Hunter's death.
Ashley was a mother of two children, a son named Elijah and a daughter named Ashlynn. A Savannah native, she had graduated from Groves High School and later obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University. She was remembered by her loved ones as a person full of life and generosity, with a smile that could light up a room and a deeply cherished sense of humor. Her professional life included roles with the Georgia Department of Community Supervision and, at the time of her passing, as a life insurance agent.
