The quiet of a February night in a Savannah, Georgia neighborhood was shattered by the terrifying sounds of gunshots, a car crash, and the cries of a baby. On that night, February 4, 2020, residents of the Summerside neighborhood were faced with a grim discovery. A blue Mitsubishi Montero was found in a ditch, riddled with bullet holes. Inside the vehicle, the lives of two young people had been tragically cut short.
In the driver's seat was 25-year-old Kadijah Pendergraph, a female who
had been fatally shot. Alongside her in the vehicle was 22-year-old Nathaniel Harvey, Jr., who had also been killed by gunfire. Miraculously, a newborn baby was found crying but unharmed in the backseat of the SUV. The infant was later determined not to be related to either of the victims and was safely returned to the parents.
Investigators with the Savannah Police Department believe that Nathaniel Harvey, Jr. was the intended target of the shooting. Detectives have described Kadijah Pendergraph as an innocent victim who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The case has been described as a double homicide.
In the years following the deaths of Kadijah and Nathaniel, the case has remained unsolved. Law enforcement officials have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the arrest of the person or persons responsible. They have urged anyone who may have seen or heard anything, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. A reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this tragic case that claimed two lives and left a community searching for answers.
