In the late hours of a December evening in Savannah, Georgia, a tragedy unfolded that would cut short the life of a young woman. On December 23, 2022, 29-year-old Ebony Ciara Drayton was shot and fatally wounded in a residence on the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. When police responded to the scene around 11 p.m., they found her suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Despite medical attention, she succumbed to her wounds.
The investigation into her death quickly revealed a grim sequence of events. Another individual, a 27-year-old man named Anthony Jackson, was also shot at the same location. Jackson, however, managed to flee the immediate scene and was later found on Treat Avenue and Mosley Street. He was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The string of violence did not end there. A short time later, officers were called to the 200 block of Randolph Street where they discovered the body of 30-year-old Devante Daniels.
Detectives were able to connect all three incidents, concluding that the events were a murder-suicide. The preliminary findings from the investigation indicated that Devante Daniels, who shared a child with Ebony Drayton, was the perpetrator. It is believed that Daniels shot both Drayton and Jackson at the Pennsylvania Avenue residence. Following the shootings, he fled to Randolph Street where he took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation into the tragic loss of Ebony Ciara Drayton concluded with the identification of her killer as Devante Daniels, who was also deceased, thus closing the case with no arrests to be made.
