In the late summer of 2023, the life of a 30-year-old Black/African American woman, Sylvasha P. Lester, was tragically cut short in Savannah, Georgia. On the morning of August 6th, she was fatally shot, an innocent victim of a dispute that had nothing to do with her. The events leading to her death began with a seemingly trivial matter—an unflattering video posted on social media.
The video angered a Savannah man named Gerald Davis, who then made threats against a group of people he
believed were responsible. In the early hours of that August morning, Davis acted on his anger, firing multiple shots into a home on Boyd Street. Inside, Sylvasha Lester was sitting on the couch when the bullets pierced through the walls. She was struck and later succumbed to her injuries. It was later revealed that she had no involvement with the video or the feud that stemmed from it.
The investigation into her senseless murder led to the arrest of Gerald Davis. He was subsequently brought to trial, where a jury found him guilty of two counts of felony murder. In addition to the murder charges, Davis was also convicted of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit criminal damage to property for his role in the shooting that ended a young mother's life.
