In the spring of 2020, a young man’s life was abruptly cut short in Columbus, Georgia. Twenty-year-old Quincy La'Savion Atkins, a former student of William H. Spencer High School and an employee at the Kia Auto Manufacturing Plant, was killed on the evening of Saturday, April 18th. The events of that evening suggest a terrifying ordeal for Atkins as he was apparently trying to escape his assailant.
Authorities believe Atkins was driving his Dodge Charger when he was shot.
In a desperate attempt to flee, he lost control of his vehicle, crashing into a fence and a nearby house. The impact caused significant damage to the fence but only minor damage to the home. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Atkins was quickly transported to a local hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Quincy Atkins succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds just minutes after his arrival at the hospital. The Muscogee County Coroner later confirmed the cause of death. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Columbus police began their investigation into what they classified as the city's 14th homicide of the year. Investigators canvassed the area and believed the shooting occurred about a block away from where the crash took place. At the time, police had not identified any suspects and had made no arrests in connection with the fatal shooting, leading them to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case.
