In the pre-dawn hours of July 11, 2015, a sense of normalcy was shattered on Interstate 185 in Columbus, Georgia, leaving a family broken and a community searching for answers. Twenty-five-year-old Keith Turner, a man known for his love of cars and his willingness to help others, was driving his silver vehicle northbound on the highway. It was around 4:00 a.m. when the sound of gunfire pierced the early morning quiet.
Multiple shots were fired from another vehicle, striking Keith and causing his car to become a tragic crime scene near the Cassita Road overpass. He died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, leaving behind a daughter he would never meet.
The investigation into Keith’s death revealed that prior to the shooting, he had been at the Lux Club, a gentleman's club on Victory Drive. His mother, Bridget Turner, recalled that he was at home for the night when he received a call about a car, a common occurrence given his passion for restoring and selling old vehicles. The call led him to the Lux Club. While at the club, it was reported that he was involved in a verbal altercation. Although the disagreement did not escalate physically inside or immediately outside the club, a vehicle was seen following Keith as he departed. The Lux Club's liquor license was revoked by the Columbus City Council three months after Turner's death due to multiple shootings.
Years have passed since that fateful morning, and Keith Turner's murder remains an unsolved cold case. Despite ongoing efforts by the Columbus Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case has been featured in 'Beyond the Yellow Tape,' a series that brings attention to cold cases, in the hopes of generating new leads. Keith's mother continues her tireless quest for justice, pleading with the public for any information that might lead to the arrest of her son's killer. She remembers her son as 'the helper,' someone who was always there for others. A reward is being offered for information that could help solve the case.
